Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Group (SEDG) Cell

The SEDG Cellis dedicated to promoting equality, inclusivity, and support for students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This cell serves as a vital support mechanism to ensure that all students, regardless of their social or economic status, have equal access to educational opportunities and a nurturing campus environment.

Who are SEDGs?

Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) include students who face barriers due to their social and economic background. These groups may include:

  • Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) – historically marginalized communities
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC) – socially and educationally disadvantaged sections
  • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) – students from low-income families
  • Women and Girls – facing gender-based disparities
  • Students with Disabilities – with physical, sensory, or intellectual challenges
  • Minority Communities – from religious or linguistic minority groups

Objectives of the SEDG Cell

  • To identify and support students from socio-economically disadvantaged groups
  • To provide necessary resources and services to help students overcome challenges
  • To foster an inclusive and equitable campus culture
  • To enhance social and economic mobility through education and empowerment

Support Mechanisms for SEDG Students

  • Scholarships & Financial Aid: Assistance to reduce financial barriers to education
  • Mentorship Programs: Pairing students with faculty or senior mentors for guidance and support
  • Academic Support: Access to tutoring, study groups, and personalized academic advising
  • Career Development: Training, internships, job placement, and career counseling
  • Counseling Services: Psychological and emotional support to address personal and social challenges
  • Inclusive Policies: Campus-wide implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Awareness Programs: Sensitization workshops and campaigns for students, faculty, and staff
